All about mentors-{NaBloPoMo- Day 7}

Do you have a mentor? Tell us about him or her.

Are you a mentor to someone else? Tell us what that relationship has added to your life.

As I read the prompt for today, I am reminded of not one or two, but many people who have come and gone at different stages, in my life.

A mentor is typically, someone who you have learnt from, someone who inspires you to keep trying when the going gets tough, an individual who believes in you when you are ready to throw in the towel. When we speak of a mentor, we think in terms of life lessons learnt, skills acquired, milestones achieved.

But, in my opinion, a mentor is anyone who inspires a very important quality in the protégée- Gratitude.

In that vein, my list of mentors would be never-ending. I am, quite literally, grateful to so many people.

There are those whom I know personally.

There are others whom I have not met/hardly met, but interacted with, over the phone or via social networks.

Then, there are those who don’t even know that I exist, but who have inspired me with their incredible words and/or actions.

So, how is it physically possible to list every single person here? For purposes of brevity, I will list one from each group, without naming the individual. This, by no means, implies that I am any less grateful to the myriad others who have crossed my path.

To the one I know personally:

You taught me that it is important to see a person for what they truly are and not for what they project.

You showed me that, deep down, people just want to be loved and that when they act out, it’s because they don’t know any better.

You made me realise that, in spite of everything that Life throws at me, I can be strong and resilient.

For that and so many more lessons, I will always be grateful.

To the one I have never/hardly met:

You were there to help me through an important decision in my life.

You listened, with a willing ear, when I just felt like talking, about nothing in particular.

You gave me faith in the belief that there are wonderful people out there; we just need to trust our instincts.

For all that and to our continuing bond, here’s a toast! May we always be connected.

To the one who doesn’t know that I exist:

You opened up new worlds for me, with your powerful words and your evocative prose.

You instilled a love for everything literary- a fact I carried through in my education.

You remain my greatest writing inspiration ever and I still quote you to my students!

For just being you, I am forever filled with the utmost gratitude.

This is my entry for:
