‘Don’t you worry, Miss. It’s as strong as an ox. It won’t collapse under all your puny weight.’
Shirley drew herself up, saying coldly, ‘Maybe I should take the stairs.’ The grey old man shrugged, stepped into the elevator, pushed the button and slowly, the creaky beast rose with its burden.
‘Waiting for someone?’ said a voice behind her. She jumped and saw a young lady. ‘Oh, no’, she replied.’ Just waiting for the elevator to come back. Gone to drop off the old guy.’
The young lady’s eyes widened. ‘Not the grey man? Why, he’s been dead 50 years!’

Oooohhh spooky!!
What a great ghost story! Love the descriptions you included. I could easily visualize the scene.

Thanks Aditi. Hope you liked it π
Thanks Beloo π
Nice read π
I liked the juxtaposition of beast and burden, and that the elevator was going UP!
Thanks Ananya π
He he he.. thanks for catching that, Lizy π
Spooky! But very nice π
uhm, I don't get the bit about the elevator going up? Going down would mean going underground and he wasn't? Still clever of her not to have gotten in with him.
Perfect story for around a campfire! Well done and classic.
I love the shot you used to illustrate your creaky story. Well done.
Good ghost story building! I wonder if the lift fell and that's how he died? Great job! Nan π
Dear Shailaja,
I'll bet she's glad she didn't get in that elevator with the grey guy. It took me a couple of reads to catch it but when I did it sent a chill down my spine. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Well crafted. I'm relieved she didn't take the elevator
