Stop being a baby! Just do it!
Gingerly, she dipped one toe in. The shiver it sent up her spine almost made her step back. But she took a deep breath and plunged into the shimmering waters of the cold pool, as it danced in the morning rays of the smiling sun.
As she came up for air, the lone swimmer noticed an unexpected visitor at the water’s edge. One rare in the city.
Unblinkingly, the plump sparrow watched her as she completed two laps. With a chirp, it took off, leaving behind a sense of warmth in its wake.

Such a sweet story. Sparrows are indeed rare now ,even in small cities like mine.
Love how you combined the prompts.
A wonderful blend of the two prompts !! Loved the way you did it 🙂 A cute swimmer, and a cuter sparrow…a warm picture !
loved the way you combined both the prompts!! Lovely story 🙂
You've combined two prompts very well. Next step: three prompts in one post!
This was lovely!! Great pic! 🙂
Lovely take on two prompts at one go.
Clever! 🙂 Glad she learned to swim.
Thanks Indy 🙂 Yes, I hardly see them now 🙁
Will pass on your cute compliment to the swimmer 🙂
Thanks Nibha 😀
You have way too much faith in me 😉 I spent a good 30 minutes on combining just two prompts 😉
Aww.. thanks Aditi 🙂
Thanks Psych! Sigh, yes.. it is a sign of increasing pollution. Butterflies and sparrows populate pollution-free zones and sadly, India is not getting any better on that front.
Thank you Geeta 🙂
Oh yes! I learnt at the ripe age of 32 and decided that she shouldn't wait that long 🙂
A very creative way to combine the two prompts. Very nice. And that picture is so good..the blue colour is so pleasing. Thankfully, where I live we still see a lot of butterflies and some in my garden too 🙂
Thanks Beloo. You are blessed indeed 🙂
Sparrows are such welcome visitors. All we get by the pool here are pigeons.. by the scores.

A to Z Challenge, 2014/ UBC, April 2014
We have pigeons too, but none by the pool, fortunately.
Great! glad that the unexpected visitor won't pass out silly comments! 🙂
Such a gr8 post … Loved how you encouraged your daughter and the aspect of the sparrow.. Need I say it's another gr8 one!
Random Thoughts Naba
I wanted to comment on your post for “F” in the A to Z challenge but your link is broken 🙁
Great job. I love flash fiction. I also seem to do best writing fiction from prompts myself. May have to check those sites out.
You have brought this out in a nice fashion….loved reading it
beautifully you have combined the two prompts…
You have used the two prompts so beautifully. Hats off to you.
Yes we are slaves of our fears if only we just do it…….
Nicely written….Goes on to prove yet again that a good writer is not dependent on a plot. A story with simple narration can be as compelling as long as it has been written well
Very well written two in one post. I wonder how you do it.
He he he.. yes, the quiet visitor is always welcome 🙂
Yet, I never tire of hearing you say that 😉
Sorry about that Carol. I think it's fixed and you've commented now. Thank you!
Indeed you must, Cheryl! Great site for prompts 🙂
Thank you very much 🙂
Glad you thought so 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Slaves to our fears- how true that is. When we can choose to be masters instead 🙂
Thank you so much, Usha Madam 🙂
Thanks Ritesh! That is an interesting compliment. I do hope I will be able to do justice to plot-driven stories as well 🙂
