The sound was more audible now, realized Sheila. Gripping the baseball  bat, she inched her way towards the kitchen. 

She charged in, brandishing the bat and turned on the light. 

And there it was – that darned digital weighing machine, tilting  and beeping under the weight of three eggs, which she’d forgotten to put away.
