Have you noticed that video pins are surfacing more often on the Pinterest platform?

Pinterest mentioned on their Medium blog that they are trying to understand the mindset of content users and regular pinners on the platform.

In this post, they mention that pin images with moving graphics, such as a video pin or a scrolling story pin, tend to get more engagement and views on the platform.

While they are still picking up in terms of overall clicks to a creator’s website, the very idea of video pins is so much fun.

That said, I’ve heard that many people are finding the idea of making video pins a little tricky.

This super-quick tutorial below is to show you how you can make video pins for Pinterest using my favourite design tool, Canva.

Pinterest Video Benefits

  1. Instant Approval:

A key feature that we’ve observed is that all video pins are almost instantly approved these days. Earlier, we’d have to wait for a few hours to check if the pin would be approved to appear on the platform.

2. Pin Stats are also instantly visible

If you’ve ever added a regular pin to Pinterest, you’d have had to wait for at least 14 to 24 hours to see the stats update on the pin.

On Video pins, the stats update in real time. So that’s a huge plus for content creators.

Note that the image below shows stats within 5 minutes of uploading a fresh video pin!

3. Reactions on video and story pins

This must be the engagement that Pinterest is harping on for a while now.

Video pins allow you to share your reaction (remember Facebook reactions?)

How to Create Video Pins Quickly

Note that when I shot this video a few months ago, the ‘Animate’ feature was only available on Canva Pro.

Since then, the feature has been rolled out to those on the free plan of Canva as well.

There are a few animation features that you cannot use, but most of the others are available for free.
