“The only way to get through life is to laugh your way through it. You either have to laugh or cry. I prefer to laugh. Crying gives me a headache.” ― Marjorie Pay Hinckley
I know how to laugh.
I knew how to stuff my mouth with a handkerchief when a teacher made a blooper, such as, ‘India has many breeds of buffalo- male, female and so on.’
I knew how to laugh out loud when a clown tripped over a bucket in the circus arena.
A Physics teacher back in school always injected humour into his classes, sometimes at his own expense, but mostly at ours. But he did it in such a way that you wouldn’t even feel offended by it. I still recall his definition of Diffusion, some 28 years later.
Imagine you are at a party. You’ve had your fill to eat. You realise you’ve overeaten and that something else will happen very soon. You look around and let it rip, silently. Within seconds, everyone’s noses are screwed up. THAT, boys and girls, is Diffusion.
I do my best with my daughter. I make sure she has her dose of laughter daily. It’s a necessary part of existence.
Laughter has filled my life, thanks to my parents, my friends and family, and today, my circle of bloggers.
Without it, Life would be a very awkward journey indeed.

So so true Shailaja.. humour is one thing we cannot do without :). And LOL at the teacher who found a way to never let you forget the meaning of diffusion!
Very lively, this post is 😉 Aah, the bloopers at school 🙂 I had a sir who once told us, “all girls queue on the right, all boys on the left and the rest of them in the middle “…. seriously, he did 😀
Humor has never failed me. I use it in relationships, business and my writing. It sustains me. Raised a very funny daughter that makes everyone laugh as well. Good post!
hahahaha! That diffuser definition was damn funny! I remember creating hydrogen sulphide gas in school laboratory, it smelled like the “diffuser” alright hahahaha
Shailaja this was a happy fun post! Smiling all the way 🙂 🙂 Your Physics teacher knew how to keep the subject interesting! It is imp to be able to laugh easily and whole-heartedly!
They say laughter is the best medicine in the world…and in my opinion life just wouldn't be worth living without it. ♥
Your post made me smile and your professor's words definitely made me laugh 🙂 Keep smiling :):)
I wish I had a physics teacher like that, perhaps I could have liked the subject a bit more 🙂 A happy read, Shailja! Keep laughing and spreading the laughter!

Hehehe! This is such an awesome post! Quote you have shared is so positive and then various instances! Yes I love to laugh and touch wood I have my mother's genes in this regard! I had taught a class too for sometime, and with the mention of your physics teacher – I remembered how I used to make mine laugh at their expense too… 😉
I signed up as an email follower to your blog, because I didn't understand the other ways to join. But now I'll look forward to your post in my inbox each day. Also, but I should let you know I just shared your post on Facebook – because when I read about diffusion, I laughed so hard I just had to share it. Thanks for the laugh.

Humour and happiness helps continue life in spirit each day! And yes Shailaja we need to make our kids understand it too. I know my parents always did!

Loved your post on humour. What a great physics teacher to use humour in such a fun way to make you learn about physics, too. What a hoot! (Or should I say, what a toot!) We all need to be able to laugh at ourselves and at life itself. It's impossible to take this all seriously. I mean really! Life makes no sense so much of the time, we have to laugh at it.
