Clad in white and sometimes in dark,
He beckons me with outstretched arms

The first time I met him was when I was young and innocent
He captured my heart with his tantalizing, dreamy gaze
The warmth of his grasp
Soothed my feverish breath
My weary head found solace in the bosom of my beloved

For a few years  I cried with longing
When I lost sight of him
But then he returned
His heart touched by my plaintive tears

In truth, he is the greatest love of my life,
My beau, my knight and  saviour
I call him Sleep.
