Silence is golden, they say, but not so much in the blogging arena. Stay silent for too long and people start to wonder if everything is fine with you, if you’ve moved continents, if you’re fed up of blogging or if you’re too busy to blog. Truth be told I was working on something- something to do with a name, naming someone very close to me, as a matter of fact.
No, no, no, it’s not what you think! I am not bringing another person into the world. This baby I am talking about is the one you see right here. Yep, that’s right; my blog baby who turns eight this August! Can you believe it? I certainly can’t!
[easy-tweet tweet=”3 Important reasons for you to switch to a custom domain” user=”shyvish”]
I’d been toying with the idea of moving to a custom domain for a while now and had balked at it for a number of reasons, none of which are relevant or important. Four people pushed me to go ahead with it and today, I am proud and happy to announce that http://www.momdiary.blogspot.in is officially:
Why you should move to a custom domain
- It looks more professional. Let’s face it. If there’s a blogspot.com or wordpress.com tagged to the end of your post, most internet users know you’re using the free platform. But a custom domain shows that you are a wee bit more serious about the blogging business than those who blog for fun.
- It gives you renewed vigour to keep blogging. Once the shift in name happens, something interesting occurs. Your approach to blogging also becomes more serious. You’re keen to blog regularly, get some visibility and build your audience.
- Brands are more willing to work with you. Yes you heard that right! There are advantages to having a custom domain! Brands actually prioritise working with bloggers on a number of things, ranging from page views to social media influencer clout. But one of the key things they check for is whether you have your own custom domain name.
For me, the primary reason to switch to a custom domain was #2. I just wanted to do this more regularly and I felt a custom domain would give me the push. And what do you know? It’s worked!

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Sharing is caring 😀
Congrats on the domain purchase. It's always a great thing. So you are not self-hosting? Or are you?
As for the name, I like Diary…adds a journal element to it for non-parenting bloggers.
Also, are you planning on a custom domain for your other blog? I think you should!
Congratulations on having your own domain, Shailaja. It really does feel amazing, doesn't it. 🙂 I felt the same way when I bought mine. It was not even my name, but I was beyond excited that night. As far as the name of the blog goes, I quite like the addition of 'Diary'. It just sounds and feels right. That doesn't explain much, I know. But it just does.
Congratulations, Shailaja. A big step indeed. May you keep climbing more and more 🙂
Congratulations, Shailaja! Although, frankly, I don't know what a 'domain' is. All I could gather was, that it is a huge step for you, which has given you immense happiness. And, for that I am happy, too.
Oh, and let the 'Diary' be. <3
Congrats.Good to own your own domain space..
nice name.. 😀 i'd do the same in future … 🙂
Congrats Shailaja…Looking forward to read more from this Diary 🙂
So happy to read this Shailaja.. I'm sure it's a great high to type in your name and see the site pop up :). To many more such writing highs for you! You know which one I'm most waiting for ;).
Congratulations, Shailaja. I love the name starting with Diary, we all can easily relate to a diary and yeah, who doesn't love to have a diary. I say, keep it! 🙂
Many congratulations Shailaja. This had to happen sooner rather than later. Glad to see you so happy. You're too generous with your praise.
Congrats and I'm so so happy for you! Eight years this August? Your blog and I share the same birthday month 🙂
P.S: I like the ideas I gave you better 😉
Congratulation for your progress.
Keeping writing and sharing…..
Congratulations, Shailaja! 🙂 Eight years of blogging – that's impressive too. Best wishes for many more. You rock!
Not sure how I should reply to that one 🙂
Thank you Sanch 🙂 No, I am not self-hosting just yet. I may do that soon enough though 🙂 Looks like the Diary is here to stay. Not one person has agreed to let me drop it. As for my other blog, I actually have a domain name ready but the problem is I have to pay extra just to shift it to custom domain, thanks to WordPress 🙁 So not keen on shelling out the cash for it right now at least. Will see how it goes.
I agree on that Shantala 🙂 Just gives you such a thrill 🙂 And I completely get what you mean about the Diary. It is here to stay 🙂
Thank you ever so much Beloo. Words from you are such sweet praise. Thank you again 🙂
Hope I managed to clear up the confusion the last time we chatted, Shilpa 🙂 Thank you for the love.
It's just the custom domain for now, Lata. Hopefully will have my own space soon 🙂
Thank you. Good luck to you as well for the next step 🙂
Thank you Naba, for all the support 🙂
Thank you, my dearest. Yes, yes, I know. I better get to that quick!
Thank you Vinitha 🙂 yes, the diary will stay 🙂
Thank you Tulika 🙂 better late than never though, right? I am happy! Thank you 🙂
Okay. This is my 4th attempt trying to leave a comment. And if this one doesn't appear – I'm just going to stop trying!
Congrats, Shy.
And No, it's not silly at all to feel all those emotions running through you when you watch your site get transformed into your own little piece of online real estate.
Thanks for the mention and give me a holler if you need any help. Congrats once again
Hmph. Of course you would like those ideas 😛 Thanks for the love, my dear 🙂
Thank you so much Swati 🙂
Thank you kindly, Debbie 🙂 Eight years, yes. But it's only been around 2 years of active, regular blogging. Before that, it was sporadic 🙂
Fourth time, eh? See, this is what happens when you anger the Blogging Gods in some fashion 😉 Did you invoke my name before posting it the fourth time? That would have helped 😀
Thank you so much, Sid. I really have you to thank for all the effort.
Congrats Shailaja. Nice to “see” you so happy. I can feel your excitement. I like the Diary.
Thank you so much, Suzy 🙂 Yes, the excitement is still palpable 🙂 And yes, the 'Diary' stays 🙂
Congrats! I am so happy for you. May you climb greater heights and yes, I prefer the Diary too. 🙂
Thank you so much, Rachna 🙂 And yes, the Diary stays right where it is 🙂
